Give your projects weather awareness in seconds. This compact module detects the very first drop of rain and reports the strength of the shower, making it ideal for smart gardens, automatic window controls, mini weather stations and more.

Pin-out

  • VCC (3 · 3 V) – connect to the 3 · 3 V pad on the micro:bit
  • GND – common 0 V reference
  • DO • Digital Output – goes HIGH when rain is detected (trigger level set by the onboard potentiometer)
  • AO • Analogue Output – 0 – 3 · 3 V signal proportional to rainfall intensity

How it works

The removable top plate is etched with interleaved tracks. When raindrops bridge these tracks the module’s comparator activates, sending a HIGH on DO while AO delivers a rising analogue voltage you can read with pin1.read_analog().

The two-wire cable linking the main board to the sensor plate is clearly marked — the lead with the ⏚ symbol must be connected to GND.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

potentiometer
A variable resistor usually turned with a knob or shaft to create an adjustable electrical signal. It is often used for inputs such as volume, brightness or position, so it helps beginners learn how a microcontroller reads changing values.
