A dual H-bridge DC motor controller based on the L298N driver chip, capable of driving two bi-directional DC motors at up to 2 A per channel. The module accepts a wide motor supply voltage of 4.8–46V and includes high-speed protection diodes and an enlarged heatsink for improved thermal performance.

With standard screw-hole mounting and a breakout module design, it's ideal for flat-mount applications where a stacked Arduino shield isn't practical.

Specifications

  • Driver Chip – L298N dual H-bridge
  • Motor Supply Voltage (Vs) – 4.8–46V
  • Logic Supply Voltage – 6–12V
  • Drive Current – Up to 2 A per channel
  • Logic Current – 36 mA
  • Max Power Dissipation – 25W (at 75°C)
  • Control Signal Levels – High: 2.3V–Vss, Low: -0.3V–1.5V
  • Operating Temperature – -25°C to +130°C
  • Dimensions – 47 × 53 mm
  • Weight – ~29 g

Ideal For

  • Dual DC motor control in robotics
  • Bi-directional motor driving applications
  • Flat-mount projects where stacked shields aren't suitable

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout board carries a small or fine-pitched component and brings its connections out to standard, breadboard- and header-friendly pins. Describing a part as a breakout means it can be wired into a project without soldering directly to the component's tiny contacts.
DC
DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
Power dissipation
Power dissipation is electrical energy being turned into heat inside a component. It matters because too much heat can reduce efficiency, affect reliability, or require a larger component or better cooling.
Shield
An add-on board that plugs into a main controller board to give it extra features such as sensing, motor control or communication. Knowing a product supports shields helps you judge whether it can connect neatly into an existing maker-board setup.
