The SN754410 is a quad half H-bridge motor driver IC capable of driving DC motors, stepper motors, and other inductive loads. It accepts TTL 5V logic inputs and can drive motors from 4.5V to 36V at up to 1A continuous output current per channel.
A pin-compatible replacement for the popular L293D, making it a straightforward drop-in upgrade for existing designs. Two half H-bridges can be combined for full bidirectional control of a single motor, or all four can be used independently.
Key Features
- Quad Half H-Bridge – Drive up to 2 DC motors bidirectionally or 4 loads independently
- 1A Continuous Output – Per channel, suitable for small to medium DC motors
- Wide Motor Voltage Range – 4.5V to 36V
- TTL Compatible – 5V logic input for direct microcontroller interfacing
- L293D Pin-Compatible – Drop-in replacement for existing L293D circuits

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- DC
- DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
- motor driver
- An electronic circuit that lets a low-power controller switch and control a motor that needs more current than the controller pins can safely provide. Checking motor driver support matters because pumps and motors usually cannot be connected directly to a microcontroller output.
