The SparkFun EL Sequencer is an Arduino-compatible board designed to control up to eight channels of electroluminescent (EL) wire, tape, or panels. It uses zero-crossing optoisolated triacs for noise-free switching and full isolation between the high-voltage AC and low-voltage DC sides.

The board includes an ATmega328 microcontroller (preloaded with demo code), headers for XBee and NRF24L01+ radio modules for wireless control, a 5V FTDI header for serial programming, and a 1.5A adjustable linear regulator to supply regulated DC to an external inverter. A USB/BATT switch allows powering via FTDI or LiPo battery.

Key Features

  • 8 EL Channels – Control up to 8 strands of EL wire/tape/panels independently
  • Zero-Crossing Triacs – Optoisolated switching for noise-free, fully isolated operation
  • Arduino-Compatible – ATmega328 microcontroller, programmable via FTDI
  • Wireless Headers – XBee and NRF24L01+ module support for remote control
  • 1.5A Regulator – Adjustable linear regulator for external inverter power
  • Preloaded Demo Code – EL wire sequences run out of the box

What You'll Also Need

  • An EL inverter (generates the high-voltage AC required by EL wire) — not included
  • EL wire, tape, or panels
  • A 5V FTDI breakout or cable to upload custom programs

Ideal For

  • Animated EL wire costumes and wearables
  • Light art installations and displays
  • Wireless-controlled EL wire projects

Package Contents

  • 1× SparkFun EL Sequencer
Warning: EL wire requires high-voltage AC to operate. While the EL Sequencer provides full isolation between the AC and DC sides, exercise caution when working with high-voltage circuits.
