The SparkFun Qwiic Haptic Driver pairs a compact Linear Resonant Actuator (LRA) vibration motor with Dialog Semiconductor's DA7280 motor driver IC for projects that require haptic feedback. Control the vibration motor via I2C, PWM, or a combination of three general-purpose input pins.
Qwiic connectors allow solderless I2C connection, while 0.1″-spaced PTH pads provide breadboard access to the I2C, power, interrupt, and GP input pins.
Key Features
- DA7280 Haptic Driver – Supports I2C, PWM, and GPI control modes
- Built-In LRA Motor – Compact linear resonant actuator included on-board
- 2× Qwiic Ports – Daisy-chainable I2C connection (no soldering required)
- Breadboard-Friendly – 0.1″ PTH pads for I2C, power, interrupt, and GPI pins
- Interrupt Pin – Notification when haptic sequences complete
Ideal For
- Physical feedback indicators for event-triggered notifications
- Robotics and remote control vibration alerts
- Wearable devices and posture correction reminders
- Proximity-based haptic alerts
Package Contents
- 1× SparkFun Qwiic Haptic Driver – DA7280 (with built-in LRA motor)

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- motor driver
- An electronic circuit that lets a low-power controller switch and control a motor that needs more current than the controller pins can safely provide. Checking motor driver support matters because pumps and motors usually cannot be connected directly to a microcontroller output.
- PTH
- Plated through-hole means the pin holes are metal-lined so solder connects the pad on both sides of the board. It is useful for connectors and headers that need a strong mechanical and electrical connection.
- PWM
- Pulse Width Modulation is a way for a digital pin to simulate variable output power by switching on and off very quickly. It matters for controlling things like LED brightness, motor speed, or servo-style signals from a microcontroller pin.
- Qwiic
- Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
- vibration motor
- A small motor with an off-centre weight on its shaft, which shakes when it spins. It matters when choosing haptic feedback, alerts, or simple movement effects, as you need to match its voltage, current draw, size, and mounting style to your project.
