The SparkFun Qwiic Haptic Driver pairs a compact Linear Resonant Actuator (LRA) vibration motor with Dialog Semiconductor's DA7280 motor driver IC for projects that require haptic feedback. Control the vibration motor via I2C, PWM, or a combination of three general-purpose input pins.

Qwiic connectors allow solderless I2C connection, while 0.1″-spaced PTH pads provide breadboard access to the I2C, power, interrupt, and GP input pins.

Key Features

  • DA7280 Haptic Driver – Supports I2C, PWM, and GPI control modes
  • Built-In LRA Motor – Compact linear resonant actuator included on-board
  • 2× Qwiic Ports – Daisy-chainable I2C connection (no soldering required)
  • Breadboard-Friendly – 0.1″ PTH pads for I2C, power, interrupt, and GPI pins
  • Interrupt Pin – Notification when haptic sequences complete

Ideal For

  • Physical feedback indicators for event-triggered notifications
  • Robotics and remote control vibration alerts
  • Wearable devices and posture correction reminders
  • Proximity-based haptic alerts

Package Contents

  • 1× SparkFun Qwiic Haptic Driver – DA7280 (with built-in LRA motor)

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

motor driver
An electronic circuit that lets a low-power controller switch and control a motor that needs more current than the controller pins can safely provide. Checking motor driver support matters because pumps and motors usually cannot be connected directly to a microcontroller output.
PTH
Plated through-hole means the pin holes are metal-lined so solder connects the pad on both sides of the board. It is useful for connectors and headers that need a strong mechanical and electrical connection.
PWM
Pulse Width Modulation is a way for a digital pin to simulate variable output power by switching on and off very quickly. It matters for controlling things like LED brightness, motor speed, or servo-style signals from a microcontroller pin.
Qwiic
Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
