This isolated PoE splitter takes a unified Power over Ethernet signal from a single RJ-45 cable and separates it into data (Ethernet) and regulated 5V DC power via a Micro USB plug. It works with any 802.3af-capable router or switch, letting you power non-PoE devices over a standard Ethernet run — no separate power cable needed.

With 12W of isolated power output delivering up to 2.4A at 5V, this splitter is ideal for powering a Raspberry Pi (Model B, B+, Pi 2, or Pi 3) or any Arduino-compatible board with Ethernet and Micro USB power input. Pair it with an Adafruit Ethernet FeatherWing for a compact PoE-powered Feather setup.

Key Features

  • IEEE 802.3af Compliant – Works with any standard PoE switch, hub, or injector
  • Isolated 5V 2.4A Output – 12W regulated power via Micro USB plug
  • Data + Power Separation – Splits PoE into Ethernet data and DC power for non-PoE devices
  • Micro USB Power Plug – Plug directly into Raspberry Pi or compatible boards
  • Galvanic Isolation – Isolated power design for safety and reliability

Ideal For

  • Raspberry Pi installations where running a separate power cable is impractical
  • Arduino and microcontroller projects with Ethernet and Micro USB power
  • Remote sensors, cameras, and IoT devices powered over Ethernet
  • Clean, single-cable deployments in enclosures and cabinets

Package Contents

  • 1× PoE Splitter with Micro USB Plug (Isolated 12W, 5V 2.4A)
Note: This splitter requires a minimum load of at least 100mA on the 5V output. Any device with Ethernet will typically draw 200mA+, so this shouldn't be an issue in normal use. For use only with true 802.3af PoE sources. If you don't have a PoE switch or injector, check out our Passive PoE Injector Cable Set.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

IoT
Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
PoE
Power over Ethernet lets one Ethernet cable carry both network data and electrical power. This is useful when installing a device where running a separate power adaptor would be difficult.
