This 5V electromagnet provides 25kg of holding force when energised with approximately 5V DC (4–6V working range). When the power is switched off, the magnet loses its magnetic field, making it suitable for controllable locking, sorting, and pick-and-place applications.

Since it behaves as an inductive load, you should drive it through a motor or solenoid driver with flyback (kick-back) protection to avoid damaging your microcontroller.

Key Features

  • Holding Force – 25kg (55 lb)
  • Working Voltage – DC 4–6V (nominal 5V)
  • Model – P40/20
  • Instant On/Off – Magnetic only when powered

Ideal For

  • DIY electromagnetic locks and latches
  • Medium-weight pick-and-place mechanisms
  • Robotics and automation projects
  • Interactive installations and exhibits

Package Contents

  • 1× 5V Electromagnet (25kg holding force, P40/20)
Note: Holding force is not the same as pick-up weight. Divide by 5–10 for an approximate pick-up capacity (~2.5–5kg). Actual performance depends on the contact surface being flat and the object being ferromagnetic steel.
Other sizes available: 2.5kg, 3kg, 5kg, 8kg, 10kg, 15kg, 20kg, 30kg, and 35kg.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

microcontroller
