This 1.2″ 8×8 LED Matrix features 64 amber LEDs arranged in a square grid, perfect for building scrolling signs, simple animations, or small pixel displays. The compact package plugs directly into a breadboard with 0.1″ pin spacing — eight pins on each side.

The matrix requires 1:8 multiplex driving. A dedicated driver such as the MAX7219 handles all the multiplexing work, or you can use shift registers (74HC595 for anodes, TPIC6B595 for cathodes) for a more hands-on approach.

Key Features

  • 8×8 LED Matrix – 64 amber LEDs in a square pixel grid
  • 1.2″ Form Factor – Compact yet highly visible
  • Breadboard Compatible – 16 pins with 0.1″ spacing (8 per side)
  • Deep Amber Colour – Distinctive warm tone

Specifications

  • LED Colour: Amber
  • Configuration: 8×8 matrix (64 LEDs)
  • Size: 1.2″ × 1.2″
  • Pin Count: 16 (8 anodes, 8 cathodes)
  • Pin Spacing: 0.1″ (2.54 mm)
  • Driving Method: 1:8 multiplex

Ideal For

  • Scrolling text signs and marquees
  • Simple animations and pixel art displays
  • Arduino and microcontroller LED projects
  • Learning multiplexed display driving

Package Contents

  • 1× 1.2″ 8×8 Amber LED Matrix (KWM-R30881CUAB)
Note: This amber matrix uses a different manufacturing process and has a deeper colour than standard yellow-orange LED matrices. Colours will not match if used side by side.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
