RedBear Duo

Duo is a thumb-size development board made to simplify the building process of Internet of Things (IoT). Everything you need is built into the Duo.

It contains WiFi, BLE and Cloud. With the help of RBLink, a RedBear expansion board, you can attach add-on modules without any soldering at all.

Features

Wifi + BLE

Duo contains both WiFi and BLE capabilities. You can build your project using either WiFi or BLE or both. They share the same 2.4GHz antenna and can run at the same time. This gives you the flexibility in utilizing the most suitable wireless technology(s) for your project.

Development – Arduino Sketches, Javascript, Embed C

Duo gives you four development platforms/languages to choose from:

Arduino IDE – Popular Development platform.  Easy to learn.

Particle WebIDE – an online development platform allows you to program your Duo online.  So, you can be miles away and still be able to do your tweaking of your Duo.

Broadcom WICED SDK – An advanced development platform where you can do low-level tweaking.  With the WICED SDK, Duo can support Classic Bluetooth which you can build audio or streaming data devices. If you have Apple MFi license, you can even development your Apple HomeKit project with Duo and WICED.

Javascript – Yes. If you know Javascript already, you are ready to go!

Cloud – Particle Cloud

Thanks to our partner, Particle, every Duo will come with instantly ready Cloud service.  Just with a few clicks from our Companion App, you will be connected to Cloud seamlessly.  And not only that, the Cloud service is FREE for the lifetime of Duo.  You can push any changes and data via Cloud right from the start.

Add-Ons – Grove Modules from Seeed

Coupling the Duo with RedBear RBLink, modules from the Seeed’s Grove System can easily be attached to your project. There is no need of any soldering work.  Just attach with jumper connectors and you are ready to see result.

BTstack is BlueKitchen’s implementation of the official Bluetooth stack. It is a dual-mode Bluetooth (BLE + Bluetooth Classic) stack, with small memory footprint and available as ANSI-C source code. BTstack is free for non-commercial use.

Hardware

The Red Bear Duo contains a ST Microelectronic STM32F205 ARM Cortex-M3 and Broadcom BCM43438 WiFi 802.11n (2.4GHz only) + Bluetooth 4.1 (Dual Mode) combo chip. It has a on-board 16 Mbit (2 MByte) SPI Flash.
