The DAGU Wheel Encoder Kit is a simple add-on for wheeled robots that measures speed and distance travelled. Each kit includes two neodymium 8-pole magnets with rubber hubs and two hall-effect sensors, providing reliable rotational feedback for odometry and motion control.

The sensors come pre-terminated with 150mm cables and 3-pin female servo headers for easy connection to your robot's controller board.

Specifications

  • Supply Voltage: 3–24V
  • Supply Current: 4mA per sensor
  • Output Voltage: 26V max
  • Output Current: 25mA continuous
  • Magnet Type: Neodymium, 8-pole
  • Cable Length: 150mm with 3-pin female servo header

Package Contents

  • 2× Neodymium 8-pole magnets with rubber hubs
  • 2× Hall-effect sensors with cables and servo headers

Ideal For

  • Measuring wheel speed and distance on robot chassis
  • Odometry and closed-loop motor control
  • RedBot and multi-chassis robot platforms

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

encoder
An encoder is a sensor that converts the rotation or position of a shaft, knob or dial into electrical signals, reporting movement as incremental steps and direction, or as an absolute position. It is used to track how far something has turned, which matters for precise positioning, speed control, repeatable movement, or using a rotary knob as an input.
Headers
Rows of connector contacts on a fixed pitch (commonly 2.54 mm) used to link a board to a breadboard, jumper wires, or another board. They come as male pin headers and female socket headers; when a module ships with pre-soldered headers it can be used straight away, whereas bare pads require soldering the pins yourself.
servo
A servo is a motor with built-in position control, usually told to move to a specific angle by a control signal. It matters when you need repeatable movement, such as steering, arms, flaps, or linkages, rather than continuous spinning.
