I've been using Wemos D1 Mini's for prototyping and they're great, especially the ability to flash over a regular USB connection, but this adds some really handy features like more flexible power input, more, neater GPIO breakouts and it's a bit more robust. It's going to streamline a lot of my development just by being easier to reconfigure and deploy.

Not sure if I have a dud board but continually fails unless I follow this step from a support site. Using 115200, 8266 driver etc. I remove the usb and restart with the following excerpt. https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino/issues/2604 - I solved every issue with the old esp8266 boot configuration: D3 to GND (GPIO0 logic level 0) D4 floating (GPIO2 has pullup logic level 1) D8 to GND (GPIO15 logic level 0) ...and not only the upload issue we are talking here, but even the 'not recognized usb device' my windows tells me with the cheapest chinese wemos D1 mini V1 board So, for those of you only trying to pull down D3, please try pulling down D8 also. EDIT: I've found a smarter way to do this. RTS signal correctly pulls down D3 so it is only sufficient to connect D3 and D8 together, they both get pulled down and everything works. Maybe a second pull-down transistor can be inserted in next wemos design if my analisys is correct.
