A custom-made 2×20 short female header designed for surface-mount (SMT) Raspberry Pi HAT designs. This header provides the slimmest possible profile when you need a low-clearance connection between your HAT and a Raspberry Pi.
While it requires SMT soldering skills (more challenging than standard through-hole headers), the result is a sleek, compact stack that's ideal for space-constrained enclosures and production-quality HAT builds.
Key Features
- 2×20 Pin Configuration – Matches the full 40-pin Raspberry Pi GPIO header
- Short Profile – Minimises the gap between HAT and Pi for ultra-slim builds
- Surface Mount (SMT) – Solders directly to the PCB surface for a compact form factor
- Raspberry Pi HAT Compatible – Works with Pi A+, B+, Pi 2, Pi 3, and later models
Ideal For
- Custom Raspberry Pi HAT PCB designs
- Low-profile enclosure builds where clearance is limited
- Production-quality HAT assemblies
- SMT prototyping and small-batch manufacturing
Specifications
- Type – Female header, surface mount (SMT)
- Pin Configuration – 2×20 (40 pins total)
- Profile – Short
- Compatibility – Raspberry Pi A+, B+, Pi 2, Pi 3, Pi 4, Pi 5

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- GPIO
- General-purpose input/output pins are microcontroller pins you can set in software to read signals, switch devices on and off, or connect to peripherals. The number of GPIO pins matters because it limits how many buttons, LEDs, sensors, and other parts you can wire directly to the board.
- Headers
- Rows of metal pins used to plug a module into a breadboard or connect it with jumper wires. Pre-soldered headers make the module easier to use straight away without needing to solder the pins yourself.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
