SEGGER J-Link EDU - JTAG/SWD Debugger
Discontinued
The SEGGER J-Link EDU is a full-featured JTAG/SWD hardware debugger for ARM-based microcontrollers, offered at a reduced price for non-commercial and educational use. It is functionally identical to the commercial J-Link BASE — including GDB Server support, unlimited flash breakpoints, and broad toolchain compatibility — but is licensed exclusively for personal, non-commercial projects.
The J-Link uses a high-speed internal MCU (not an FTDI converter) for fast programming and responsive debugging. It supports JTAG and SWD protocols across a wide range of ARM cores, works with all major IDEs and operating systems, and includes flash-programming algorithms for most MCU families.
Key Features
- JTAG and SWD Support – ARM7/9/11, Cortex-A5/A8/A9, Cortex-M0/M0+/M1/M3/M4, Cortex-R4
- High-Speed USB Interface – Fast flash programming and responsive debugging
- Cross-Platform GDB Server – Free GDB Server for Linux, Windows, and macOS
- IDE Neutral – Works with Keil, IAR, Atmel Studio, Crossworks for ARM, and more
- Vendor Neutral – One debugger for all ARM-based chips, regardless of manufacturer
- Unlimited Flash Breakpoints – Full debugging capability without artificial limits
- Broad MCU Support – Built-in flash algorithms for most ARM microcontrollers, regularly updated
Ideal For
