This large 1" tall 7-segment display features RGB LEDs in every segment, allowing full-colour digit output. Each of the seven segments contains 3 individual red, green, and blue LEDs (21 LEDs total), with all anodes connected together and 21 separate cathodes for individual control.
Driving the display requires 21 output pins — one approach is to chain three 74HC595 shift registers together, providing 24 outputs controllable via a 3-pin SPI interface. The decimal point is not connected on this display.
