Expand your Raspberry Pi 5 with high-speed storage and extra USB connectivity using this PCIe HAT+ board. It connects to the Pi 5’s 16PIN PCIe interface with the included cable, adding an M.2 NVMe slot plus four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports.

The M.2 slot is designed for NVMe protocol solid-state drives and supports 2230/2242/2260/2280 sizes. It can also support booting the Raspberry Pi 5 directly from an NVMe SSD, helping improve system and file reading/writing efficiency compared with the Pi’s TF card slot.

Setup is driver-free and plug and play. For installation, attach the thermal tapes first, install the Official Active Cooler and fix the HAT. The package includes 1× PCIe To M.2 USB HAT+, 1× 16PIN PCIe cable and 1× Screw pack.

Raspberry Pi 5 and solid-state drives are not included.

Features:

  • NVMe Protocol Support: Specially designed for the NVMe protocol solid-state drives.
  • M.2 SSD Size Support: Accommodates various M.2 SSD sizes (2230/2242/2260/2280).
  • Expandable USB 3.2 Ports: Extends your Raspberry Pi's capabilities with four additional high-speed USB 3.2 Gen1 ports.
  • Plug and Play: Driver-free installation; just plug it in, and it's ready to roll.
  • Built for Raspberry Pi 5: Connects via a 16-pin cable to the Pi's own PCIe interface.
  • High-Speed Reading/Writing: Enhances system and file reading/writing efficiency.
  • NVMe Boot Support: Supports booting your Raspberry Pi 5 directly from an NVMe solid-state drive.
  • Intuitive LED Indicators: Dual onboard LED indicators provide visual feedback on the working status.
  • Advanced Power Monitoring: Integrated power monitoring chip and EEPROM provide real-time power status tracking.
  • NVMe Drive Slot Support: Only supports the NVMe Protocol Solid State Drives.
  • PCIe Gen2 Support: Supports Gen2 standard.
  • HAT+ Standard: HAT+ Standard compliant hardware.
  • Compact and Convenient: Designed to avoid unnecessary weight or size on your Raspberry Pi 5 setup.

Specifications:

  • Product Code: PCIe TO M.2 USB HAT+
  • Interfaces: M.2 (NVMe), USB 3.2 Gen1 × 4
  • PCIe Version: Gen2 (compatible)
  • Mounting Solution: HAT+ Standard
  • Extended Interface: 16PIN PCIe
  • Protocol Support: NVMe (Bootable)
  • Onboard Features: Power monitoring, Dual LED indicators
  • Weight: 0.052 kg

A practical upgrade for Pi 5 projects that need faster storage, more USB peripherals, or NVMe boot support.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

EEPROM
A type of non-volatile memory that keeps stored data even when power is turned off. In a sensor module, it can be used to store settings or calibration data so they do not need to be re-entered every time.
LED
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
M.2
M.2 is a compact edge-connector standard for plugging small modules - such as SSDs, wireless cards or microcontroller modules - into a host board without soldering. The same slot shape can carry different interfaces (for example PCIe, SATA or USB), so keying and the supported module type need to be checked.
NVMe
A high-speed storage standard commonly used by modern SSDs. NVMe support matters if you want faster storage for large AI models, video files or operating system images than a typical microSD card can provide.
