The DS18B20 is a digital temperature sensor from Maxim (now Analog Devices) that communicates over a 1-Wire bus. It reports temperature in degrees Celsius with 9 to 12-bit configurable resolution. Each sensor has a unique 64-bit serial number, allowing multiple sensors to share a single data line.
Key Features
- Temperature Range – −55 °C to +125 °C
- Accuracy – ±0.5 °C (over −10 °C to +85 °C range)
- Resolution – Configurable 9 to 12 bits
- Interface – 1-Wire (single data line)
- Unique 64-Bit Serial – Multiple sensors on one bus
- Supply Voltage – 3.0 V to 5.5 V (also supports parasitic power mode)
- Package – TO-92 (3-pin through-hole)
Ideal For
- Data logging and environmental monitoring
- Temperature control systems
- Multi-sensor networks on a single data bus
- Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects
Package Contents
- 1× DS18B20 digital temperature sensor
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- 1-Wire
- 1-Wire is a communication method where devices share a single data line, often with each device having its own address. It matters because several temperature modules can be connected to one microcontroller pin instead of needing a separate pin for each probe.
- DS18B20
- A common digital temperature sensor often sold in waterproof probe form. It matters here because the kit does not include temperature measurement, and a DS18B20 is the suggested add-on if your water readings need temperature context.
