The MiniQ Discovery Robot Kit is a 2WD mobile robot platform based on the MiniQ chassis and the Romeo V2 All-in-One Arduino-compatible controller. It comes with a Sharp GP2Y0A21 distance sensor and 9g micro servo pre-included, making it ready for obstacle avoidance and sensor-based navigation right out of the box.
The kit features a stackable upper deck with leaf pads for on-the-go prototyping — supporting both DIP and SMD components. Motor wires come pre-soldered and glued, so you can start building immediately after simple assembly.
Key Features
- Romeo V2 Controller – Arduino-compatible board with integrated 2-channel DC motor driver and XBee socket
- Sharp IR Distance Sensor – GP2Y0A21 with 10–80 cm range for obstacle detection
- 9g Micro Servo – For sensor panning or mechanical actuation
- Stackable Upper Deck – Prototyping board with leaf pads for DIP and SMD components
- Pre-Soldered Motors – Motor wires soldered and glued for quick assembly
Motor Specifications
- No-Load Speed – 13,000 RPM
- Gear Ratio – 50:1
- Speed (6V) – 260 RPM
- Current (6V) – 40 mA (no load) / 360 mA (stall)
- Torque (6V) – 10 oz·in
Distance Sensor Specifications
- Operating Voltage – 4.5–5.5V
- Current – 30 mA typical
- Range – 10–80 cm
- Output – Analogue voltage (1.9V differential typical)

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- motor driver
- An electronic circuit that lets a low-power controller switch and control a motor that needs more current than the controller pins can safely provide. Checking motor driver support matters because pumps and motors usually cannot be connected directly to a microcontroller output.
- servo
- A servo is a motor with built-in position control, usually told to move to a specific angle by a control signal. It matters when you need repeatable movement, such as steering, arms, flaps, or linkages, rather than continuous spinning.
- Torque
- A twisting force that causes something to rotate, usually measured in newton-metres or kilogram-centimetres. It matters when choosing motors, servos, gears, and tools because higher torque is needed to lift heavier loads, turn larger wheels, or move mechanisms without stalling.
