The Micro Dot pHAT is a retro-style LED matrix display board for Raspberry Pi, designed to drive up to six Lite-On LTP-305 LED matrices. Each 5×7 pixel matrix includes a decimal point, giving you an effective display area of 30×7 pixels across all six modules.

Use between 1 and 6 matrices in your choice of green and/or red for scrolling message displays, spectrum analysers, clocks, or sensor readouts. This listing is for the bare pHAT board only — LED matrix modules are sold separately.

Key Features

  • 3× IS31FL3730 LED Drivers – Drives up to 6 LTP-305 LED matrices via I2C
  • 30×7 Pixel Display – 5×7 pixels per matrix plus decimal point, across 6 modules
  • Green and/or Red Matrices – Mix and match colours across the 6 positions
  • pHAT Form Factor – Compact Raspberry Pi Zero-sized board
  • Python Library – Comprehensive library for easy text scrolling and graphics
  • Stackable – Works alongside other pHATs and HATs

Compatibility

  • Raspberry Pi 3B+, 3, 2, B+, A+
  • Raspberry Pi Zero and Zero W

Ideal For

  • Retro scrolling message displays
  • Compact clocks and timers
  • Audio spectrum analysers
  • Sensor data readouts (temperature, pressure, light)

Package Contents

  • 1× Micro Dot pHAT board (bare PCB, no matrices or header included)
Note: This is the pHAT board only. LTP-305 LED matrix modules and female header require separate purchase and soldering.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

I2C
I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
pHAT
A smaller add-on board format for Raspberry Pi, similar in idea to a HAT but usually not full-sized. It matters because pHAT compatibility can affect how neatly a board stacks or fits into a Raspberry Pi project.
