Measure dissolved oxygen in water for aquaculture, environmental monitoring, natural science projects and general water-quality work. This DFRobot Gravity kit pairs a galvanic dissolved oxygen probe with an analogue signal converter board for easy use with Arduino and other microcontrollers that have an ADC input.
The galvanic probe does not need a polarisation warm-up time, so it is ready to use when prepared. The probe uses a replaceable membrane cap and filling solution to help keep maintenance costs down, while the converter board provides a plug-and-play Gravity analogue interface.
Open-source code and a detailed tutorial are provided by DFRobot to help you build your own dissolved oxygen detector. Please note that the filling solution is not included due to air transport restrictions; the sensor cannot operate without 0.5 mol/L NaOH filling solution in the membrane cap, and appropriate gloves and care should be used when handling it.
Features:
- Dissolved Oxygen Probe: Galvanic probe, no need polarization time
- Dissolved Oxygen Probe: Filling solution and membrane cap is replaceable, low maintenance cost
- Signal Converter Board: 3.3~5.5V wide-range power supply, compatible with most Arduino microcontroller
- Signal Converter Board: 0~3.0V analog output, compatible with all microcontrollers with ADC function.
- Signal Converter Board: Gravity interface, plug and play, easy to use

- Pressure Range: 0~50PSI
- Electrode Service Life: 1 year (normal use)
- Membrane Cap Replacement Period: 1~2 months (in muddy water); 4~5 months (in clean water)
- Filling Solution Replacement Period: Once every month
- Cable Length: 2 meters
- Probe Connector: BNC
- Operating Voltage: 3.3~5.5V
- Output Signal: 0~3.0V
- Cable Connector: BNC
- Signal Connector: Gravity Analog Interface (PH2.0-3P)

During measurement, gently stir the water so oxygen is evenly distributed. Avoid touching the oxygen-permeable membrane with fingernails or sharp objects, as it is sensitive and fragile.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- ADC
- An analogue-to-digital converter reads a changing voltage and turns it into a number the microcontroller can use. It matters when connecting analogue sensors such as light, sound, or variable-resistor sensors.
- Gravity
- Gravity is DFRobot’s plug-in connector system for sensors, motors and modules, using standard cables to reduce loose jumper wiring. It matters because Gravity-compatible parts can connect directly to these ports, while non-Gravity parts may need adapters or manual wiring.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
Acid & alkaline solution not included
Due to the International Import and Export Policy, the corrosive solution (acid & alkaline solution) is not allowed to deliver by air transportation. The filling solution is not included in the kit. You have to purchase it from local shop or deploy the solution by yourself, refer to WiKi FAQ-Q4. It can’t work without filling solution! Please be caution with the purchase!
