The THETA Robot is a feature-packed, circular robot platform designed for BBC micro:bit. Developed in conjunction with ROBOTIXLAB in Greece, it arrives ready-assembled with multiple sensors, dual motors, and extensive expansion capability.
A dedicated onboard microprocessor handles all the extra features beyond the micro:bit's capacity. Standard 4tronix expansion connectors let you plug in accessories like a 5×5 RGB matrix, OLED screen, or RoboFace in place of the included ultrasonic sensor. A MakeCode extension makes it easy to program all features using block coding.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- I2C
- I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
- OLED
- OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode, a display type where each pixel produces its own light. It matters because OLED screens are thin, high-contrast and easy to read for small status displays, but they can be more sensitive to image burn-in than some other display types.
- potentiometer
- A variable resistor usually turned with a knob or shaft to create an adjustable electrical signal. It is often used for inputs such as volume, brightness or position, so it helps beginners learn how a microcontroller reads changing values.
- RGB
- Short for red, green and blue, usually referring to an LED that can mix those three colours. It matters because controlling an RGB LED teaches how separate outputs combine to create different colours.
