This cool white LED ring light is a slim, bright PCB ring that makes it easy to add even lighting to costuming, photo/video projects, or any build that needs a clean ring of light. Just supply 5 V at up to 500 mA and it lights up immediately — no addressable LED library or microcontroller required.
The entire ring switches on/off together (these are not individually addressable NeoPixel LEDs). You can dim it using a PWM signal on the power line.
Key Features
- Cool White LEDs – Bright, even illumination in a ring layout
- 70 mm Diameter – Compact ring-shaped PCB
- 5 V Power – Simple two-wire connection, up to 500 mA
- PWM Dimmable – Control brightness with a PWM signal
- Slim Profile – Thin PCB fits into tight spaces
Ideal For
- Photography and video ring lighting
- Cosplay and costume lighting effects
- Macro photography illumination
- Decorative and accent lighting
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- duty cycle
- The fraction of time a signal or power source is switched on during each repeating on/off cycle, usually given as a percentage. It is central to PWM (pulse-width modulation), where adjusting the duty cycle controls things like LED brightness, motor speed or heater power, and on devices such as proximity sensors it can also affect detection range, response speed, accuracy and power use.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
- NeoPixel
- A type of addressable LED system where colour data is sent along a single digital data line from one LED or controller to the next. Compatibility matters because the timing and signal format must match for the lights or driver board to respond correctly.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board (PCB) is a board, usually rigid, with etched copper tracks that connect electronic components together without loose wiring. Components are mounted on the board and signals route between them through the copper layout.
- PWM
- Pulse Width Modulation is a way for a digital pin to simulate variable output power by switching on and off very quickly. It matters for controlling things like LED brightness, motor speed, or servo-style signals from a microcontroller pin.
