A capacitive proximity sensor with an adjustable detection range of 1–10 mm, capable of detecting both metallic and non-metallic objects. Unlike inductive sensors that only respond to metals, this capacitive sensor detects anything with sufficient dielectric properties — including plastics, wood, glass, liquids, and more.
Housed in a fully enclosed PBT plastic shell with IP67 waterproof and dustproof protection, it operates on a 10–30V DC supply and outputs a PNP normally-open (high-level) signal. Built-in short circuit, overload, and reverse polarity protection make it reliable for industrial and hobbyist applications alike.
Key Features

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- capacitive sensing
- Capacitive sensing detects changes in electrical capacitance, in this case caused by different amounts of water in the soil near the sensor plate. It matters because it avoids exposed metal probe contacts, which can corrode in damp soil over time.
- IP67
- An ingress protection rating meaning the enclosure is dust-tight and can survive temporary immersion in water under specified test conditions. This matters when choosing a sensor for outdoor, wet, or wash-down environments.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- Proximity sensor
- A sensor that detects when an object is nearby without needing physical contact. For this product it matters because the useful detection range is short, up to about 200 mm, so it suits touch-free triggers and close object detection rather than long-distance measuring.
- reverse polarity protection
- A circuit feature that helps protect the board if power is connected the wrong way around. It matters because it can reduce the chance of damaging the breakout during wiring mistakes, especially in classroom or prototyping use.
