The Texas Instruments CD74HC4067 is a 16-channel analogue multiplexer/demultiplexer IC. It allows you to route one of 16 analogue signals to a single common pin (or vice versa) using just 4 digital control lines plus an enable pin — effectively expanding a single ADC channel to read from 16 sources.

This is the bare IC in a 24-pin SSOP package. A 28-pin SSOP-to-DIP adapter board is recommended for breadboard prototyping.

Key Features

  • 16 Channels – Select any of 16 analogue inputs/outputs with 4 digital control pins
  • Bidirectional – Works as both multiplexer and demultiplexer
  • Low On-Resistance – Suitable for analogue signal routing
  • Wide Voltage Range – 2V to 6V operating voltage
  • 24-Pin SSOP Package – Compact surface-mount form factor

Specifications

  • Part Number – CD74HC4067
  • Channels – 16
  • Package – 24-pin SSOP
  • Operating Voltage – 2V to 6V
  • Manufacturer – Texas Instruments

Ideal For

  • Expanding ADC inputs on Arduino and other microcontrollers
  • Analogue signal routing and switching
  • Sensor arrays requiring multiplexed readings

Package Contents

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

ADC
An analogue-to-digital converter reads a changing voltage and turns it into a number the microcontroller can use. It matters when connecting analogue sensors such as light, sound, or variable-resistor sensors.
multiplexer
A multiplexer (mux) is a chip or circuit that selects one of several input signals and routes it to a single shared output, with select lines choosing which input is connected; running the same idea in reverse, to send one input to a chosen output, gives a demultiplexer. Multiplexers let a single controller or line work with several signals or devices that would otherwise clash on a shared connection.
