The Raspberry Pi TV HAT is a DVB-T2 Digital TV receiver add on for the Raspberry Pi, compatible with the  Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+  or Raspberry Pi Zero W  (and older Raspberry Pi 2 & 3 models)

The Raspberry Pi TV HAT allows you to receive digital terrestrial TV broadcast systems which includes DVB-T and DVB-T2 on a Raspberry Pi. This means that you can receive and view TV on a Raspberry Pi or create a TV server that allows you to stream received TV over a network to other devices (including PCs, tablets, smartphones (via apps), media centres and more)

The TV HAT can be used on all Raspberry Pi boards when running as a backend (server for other devices on the network), however when receiving and viewing TV directly on a Raspberry Pi it is recommended to use a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+  (or older Raspberry Pi Model 3) to do this.

The TV HAT features a Sony CXD2880 TV tuner supporting DVB-T and the second generation DVB-T2 TV standards.

We’ve put together a clear and easy to follow step-by-step guide to show you exactly how to assemble, install and configure the Raspberry Pi TV HAT. We've also written a tutorial on how to get the Raspberry Pi TV HAT working with Plex!

Raspberry Pi TV HAT

What a gem of a HAT, super easy to assemble but do check out tutorials on setting up the TV headend. Now having done that its not that hard I simply didn't know anything about it starting out. On a Pi 3 B+ with LibraElec Kodi the picture quality is clear crisp and HDTV is lovely on desktop/laptop monitors. There is no lag audio/visual wise whilst viewing. Changing channel takes a fraction of a second, nothing that annoys me and I were concerned but it's turned out to be great.

5 stars on the ability to stream TV to other devices over my own WiFi network. With the Pi showing Ch9 on a desktop monitor, a laptop viewing another Ch9 show again there's no lag (citation on TV and WiFi strength). I am using a quality external antenna on the roof though. I have more testing to do but first impression's are this is a gem of a Hat.
