STEM Bird Blocks - Pipes and Tubes

Stem Bird Blocks are designed for young children to help them explore and invent. Using Pipes and Tubes they will learn cause and effect and see how the balls roll through the model they have created.
The kit contains 164 ABS plastic pieces. There are bright coloured blocks, 4 base plates, flags, tubes, corners, balls, doors and even a seesaw block.
Included in the box is also project cards to help little minds get inspiration!
All the parts are included in a large plastic container for easy storage.
The blocks are designed for children aged 3+ and are compatible with other popular building blocks.
Suggested Lessons and Outcomes
1. Creating Animals
Ask the children to think of some animals they could make with blocks. For example, could they make an elephant with a long trunk or a giraffe with a long neck? Other ideas might be a monkey or a snake.
Questions to ask - What are the main features of the animal? What does a giraffe look like? What could you use for its neck? How can you make it so he won't fall over? Can the ball roll down through his neck?
Words to use - tall, short, long, sturdy, wobbly, thin
2. Get Inventing
Make an invention using pipes and tubes. See if the children can make a tall tower with a tube that goes all the way down.
Questions to ask - What problems did you face when making the tower? Did the ball get stuck at all? How did you fix any problems?
Words to use - slide, top, bottom, in, out, through, narrow, tower
3. Design a playground
Ask the children what they like most about their playground and using the blocks see if they can design a fun playground for the little people.
Questions to ask - What is your favourite play equipment? How will the person get up? What makes the seesaw balance? What if there is more than one person at each end?
Words to use - slide, long, short, up, down, balance, construct, building
