The RP-L-170 is a long, flexible thin-film pressure sensor with a 170mm active area for detecting both static and dynamic pressure. As pressure is applied, the sensor's resistance decreases — making it easy to read with any analogue input on a microcontroller.

Built from ultra-thin film with nanometre pressure-sensitive layers, the sensor is just 0.35mm thick. It triggers at under 20g and measures up to 10kg or more, with a response time under 10ms and a lifespan exceeding 1 million cycles.

Key Features

  • Ultra-Thin & Flexible – 0.35mm thick, easily integrated into wearables and surfaces
  • Wide Measurement Range – 20g to 10kg+ pressure detection
  • Fast Response – Less than 10ms response time, under 0.01s activation
  • Long Lifespan – Over 1 million cycles
  • Low Drift – Less than 5% under 2.5kg static load over 24 hours
  • No EMI/ESD Generation – Safe for sensitive electronics

Specifications

  • Sensor Length: 170mm
  • Thickness: 0.35mm
  • Trigger Force: <20g (default resistance <200kΩ)
  • Pressure Range: 20g–10kg+
  • Initial Resistance: >10MΩ
  • Activation Time: <0.01s
  • Response Time: <10ms
  • Operating Temperature: −40°C to +85°C
  • Lifespan: >1 million cycles
  • Hysteresis: +10% (1000g force)
  • Drift: <5% (2.5kg force, static load 24h)

Ideal For

  • Pressure switches and touch interfaces
  • Bed and seat monitoring systems
  • Smart footwear and wearables
  • Medical device systems
  • Arduino and microcontroller projects

Package Contents

  • 1× RP-L-170 Thin Film Pressure Sensor

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
