GPIO: General-purpose input/output pins are microcontroller pins you can set in software to read signals, switch devices on and off, or connect to peripherals. The number of GPIO pins matters because it limits how many buttons, LEDs, sensors, and other parts you can wire directly to the board.
HDMI: HDMI is a common digital video and audio connection used by computers, media players, and many displays. If a display kit has HDMI input, it is usually much easier to test with a single-board computer because it can act like a normal monitor.

I got started pretty easily though I had to google to find out how to drop back to the NOOBS installer on boot and reinstall Raspbian Lite instead of the default Raspbian. Inconveniently, I could not work out how to configure a keyboard type that would let me type special characters (e.g. '|') on my Logitech USB keyboard. Luckily I only needed to use the keyboard long enough to get sshd running and switch to headless operation. Provided heatsinks seem to be working OK. Powersupply and case are good quality. Overall a good experience and I had everything I needed to get up and running.
