This compact encapsulated laser diode module produces a red 650nm beam with 5mW output, making it useful for embedded electronics projects that need a simple visible laser source.
It includes an integrated driver, so it is not a standalone laser pointer. Connect a 3 to 5VDC power supply to the red and black wires and the module is ready to lase.
Typical project uses include laser harps, electronic trip wires, laser-vision guidance and other maker builds where a small, low-power laser module is required. Please handle responsibly and follow appropriate laser safety practices.

- DC
- DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
- laser diode
- A semiconductor component that produces a narrow beam of laser light when electrical current flows through it. Laser diodes often need current control and safe handling because too much current can damage them and the light can be hazardous to eyes.
- wavelength
- The distance between repeating peaks of a wave, often used to describe the colour of light in nanometres. For visible lasers and LEDs, wavelength tells you the approximate colour, such as red, green or blue.
