An Infrared emitter, or IR emitter, is a source of light energy in the infrared spectrum. This little part is a light emitting diode (LED) that is used in order to transmit infrared signals from a remote control. This simple device operates at 940nm and works well for generic IR systems. This emitter is driven up to 50mA with a current limiting resistor as with any LED device.

- continuous forward current
- The amount of current a diode can carry in its normal conducting direction for an extended time without overheating. This rating helps you choose a diode that can safely handle the load in your circuit.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- wavelength
- The distance between repeating peaks of a wave, often used to describe the colour of light in nanometres. For visible lasers and LEDs, wavelength tells you the approximate colour, such as red, green or blue.
