This calibrated gas sensor measures ammonia concentration in the environment using an electrochemical probe. It supports three output modes — analogue, I2C and UART — so it can slot into a wide range of microcontroller and single-board computer projects.
The probe is factory-calibrated for quick setup and is designed for industrial ammonia detection and environmental protection devices. It offers strong anti-interference performance, high stability and high sensitivity, with a service life of more than two years in air.
The Gravity signal conversion board is compatible with mainstream controllers including Arduino, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi. It supports 32 modifiable I2C addresses, an integrated temperature compensation algorithm and a threshold alarm function, with sample code available to help you build an ammonia concentration detector quickly.
Included are Gravity: NH3 Signal Conversion Board x1, NH3 sensor probe x1 and Gravity - 4pin Cable x1. This sensor is part of DFRobot's calibrated gas sensor series, which uses the same method and data format across multiple gas types.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- DC
- DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
- ESP32
- ESP32 is a family of low-cost microcontroller chips and modules from Espressif with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. They support programmable firmware and over-the-air updates, and are commonly programmed with toolchains such as the Arduino core and ESP-IDF.
- Gravity
- Gravity is DFRobot’s plug-in connector system for sensors, motors and modules, using standard cables to reduce loose jumper wiring. It matters because Gravity-compatible parts can connect directly to these ports, while non-Gravity parts may need adapters or manual wiring.
- I2C
- I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a single chip that runs a stored program and controls connected inputs and outputs such as buttons, sensors, displays and communication interfaces. In a device built around one, it is the part that executes the code and coordinates the device's behaviour.
- single-board computer
- A complete computer built onto one circuit board, usually including the processor, memory, ports, and connectors. This matters because accessories like heatsinks must match the board’s layout and mounting holes to fit properly.
- Temperature compensation
- Temperature compensation is when a sensor or instrument adjusts its readings to reduce errors caused by changes in temperature. This matters because a sensor's raw output often drifts as conditions warm or cool, so compensation keeps readings more consistent and accurate over time.
- UART
- UART is a simple asynchronous serial interface that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, usually labelled TX and RX, with both ends set to the same baud rate. It is a common way for microcontrollers and other serial devices to exchange data.
