The X300 Expansion Shield is a feature-rich add-on board for the Raspberry Pi B+, 2B, and 3B. It integrates a wide range of connectivity and multimedia functions including SATA, WiFi, Bluetooth, a real-time clock, audio I/O, and a powered USB hub — all in a board that sits directly on top of the Pi's GPIO header with no soldering required.

The board includes its own step-down DC/DC power converter (6–18 V input to 5 V / 4 A output) to power both the shield and the Raspberry Pi. A duplicated 40-pin header on top allows additional HATs and expansion boards to be stacked.

Key Features

  • SATA Interface – Connect SATA storage devices to your Raspberry Pi
  • WiFi – IEEE 802.11 b/g/n with external antenna
  • Bluetooth – Serial communication module
  • Real-Time Clock – DS3231SN with CR2032 battery backup
  • 3-Port USB Hub – Self-powered for peripherals and storage
  • Audio I/O – 3.5 mm mic in, 3.5 mm stereo out, SPDIF output, stereo amplifier (3.3 W × 2)
  • IR Sensor – 38 kHz infrared receiver for remote control
  • Integrated Power Supply – 6–18 V DC input, 5 V / 4 A regulated output
  • Stackable – Duplicated 40-pin header supports additional expansion boards
  • Camera Slot – Flex cable pass-through for the Pi camera

Specifications

  • Input Voltage – 6–18 V DC
  • Output – 5 V / 4 A (step-down DC/DC)
  • Dimensions – 85 × 56 mm (same as Raspberry Pi)
  • RTC Chip – DS3231SN
  • WiFi Standard – 802.11 b/g/n

Compatibility

  • Raspberry Pi Model B+
  • Raspberry Pi 2 Model B
  • Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Warning: When powering the Raspberry Pi through the X300's power input, do not simultaneously power the Pi via its Micro-USB port. Dual power sources may damage the board.

Package Contents

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

DC
DC means direct current, where electricity flows in one constant direction, as supplied by batteries, USB ports and many plug-pack power supplies. When a product specifies DC, it runs from a DC supply rather than mains AC, so you need to provide the correct voltage and polarity.
GPIO
General-purpose input/output pins are microcontroller pins you can set in software to read signals, switch devices on and off, or connect to peripherals. The number of GPIO pins matters because it limits how many buttons, LEDs, sensors, and other parts you can wire directly to the board.
RTC
A Real-Time Clock keeps track of time even when the main processor is asleep or powered down, usually with a small backup battery. It matters for data logging and tracking projects that need accurate timestamps.
Shield
An add-on board that plugs into a main controller board to give it extra features such as sensing, motor control or communication. Knowing a product supports shields helps you judge whether it can connect neatly into an existing maker-board setup.
