A compact sensor shield that pairs with an ESP8266 ESP-01 or ESP-01S module to monitor temperature and humidity over WiFi. The onboard DHT11 sensor captures environmental data, which the ESP8266 processes and uploads to a server — perfect for IoT and smart home projects.
Simply program your ESP-01/ESP-01S, plug it into the 2×4 pin header, and connect a DC power source. The module handles the rest, making it an easy starting point for wireless environmental monitoring.
Key Features
- DHT11 Sensor – Measures temperature (0–50°C, ±2°C accuracy) and humidity (10–90% RH, ±5% RH accuracy)
- Wide Input Voltage – Accepts DC 3.7V–12V, compatible with 3.7V lithium batteries for portable use
- ESP-01/ESP-01S Compatible – 2×4 pin header for easy plug-in of your ESP8266 WiFi module
- WiFi Data Upload – Transmit temperature and humidity readings to a remote server wirelessly
Ideal For
- Smart home environmental monitoring
- IoT temperature and humidity logging
- Wireless sensor networks with Arduino or NodeMCU projects
- Battery-powered remote weather stations
Getting Started
- Connect a 3.7V–12V DC power supply to the VCC and GND pins (2.54mm header)
- Download and flash your program to the ESP-01/ESP-01S
- Insert the ESP-01/ESP-01S into the 2×4 pin header (follow the arrow direction on the board)

Temperature and humidity data is sent to another WiFi module and displayed via serial output:

Resources
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- IoT
- Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
- Shield
- An add-on board that plugs into a main controller board to give it extra features such as sensing, motor control or communication. Knowing a product supports shields helps you judge whether it can connect neatly into an existing maker-board setup.
