The EagLED is Little Bird Electronics' own Arduino-compatible wearable development kit, designed from the ground up for e-textile projects. It packs a microcontroller, LEDs, light sensor, push button, and buzzer onto a snippable board — with snap-off satellite boards for eyes, stars, and hearts that can be sewn anywhere on a garment.

Beginner-friendly and fabric-safe, the EagLED features flush-mounted components that won't snag on clothing, reverse-polarity protection, and full Arduino IDE compatibility. It's also a Microsoft Certified USB device, allowing it to appear as a keyboard, mouse, or MIDI instrument when connected to a computer.

Key Features

  • Arduino Compatible – Program with the Arduino IDE; no special toolchain required
  • Built-in USB – Program, power, and use as HID (keyboard, mouse, MIDI) over USB
  • Snippable Satellite Boards – Detachable Eye LEDs, Star LEDs, Love Heart LEDs, push button, and light sensor for sewing at different locations
  • 14 Sewing Pad Pads – Conductive sew pads on the main board for thread-based connections; also crocodile-clip friendly
  • Flexible Power Options – Runs on USB (5V), 6V CR2032 coin cell, or 3.7V LiPo battery
  • Long Battery Life – Up to 10 hours on a CR2032 with the default blink sketch
  • Onboard Regulator – 3.3V 600mA LDO regulator with diode protection and USB fuse
  • Reverse Polarity Protection – Safe for beginners; won't be damaged by incorrect battery orientation
  • 4 Indicator LEDs – Power good, TX, RX, and user-controlled
  • ICSP Connector – For advanced users needing direct ISP programming
  • Fabric Friendly – All components flush to the PCB; won't snag garments

Specifications

  • Dimensions – 70mm × 100mm
  • Input Voltage – 3V–6VDC (do not exceed 6VDC)
  • USB Supply – 5V via USB
  • Coin Cell Supply – 6V (2× CR2032)
  • LiPo Supply – 3.7V

Ideal For

  • E-textile and wearable electronics projects
  • Beginners learning Arduino in a creative, hands-on way
  • Fashion tech and interactive costume design
  • Classrooms and maker workshops

Package Contents

  • 1× EagLED snippable board with buzzer
  • Conductive thread bobbin
  • 1× AAA battery pack with JST connector
Note: A battery pack is required to power this board without USB. A LiPo battery or external coin cell pack is recommended for wearable use.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

conductive thread
Thread made with metal or other conductive fibres so it can carry electricity while being sewn into fabric. It matters for wearable and textile projects because it can replace wire, but it has more resistance than normal hookup wire.
HID
Human Interface Device is a USB device class used for keyboards, mice, gamepads and similar controls. If a board supports HID over USB, it can act like an input device to a computer without needing a custom driver.
IDE
Short for Integrated Development Environment, a program used to write, run and manage code. It matters because some learners prefer a traditional coding workspace instead of a guided notebook-style lesson.
ISP
An image signal processor is hardware that helps process raw camera data into usable images or video. It matters for vision projects because it can improve camera handling and reduce the processing load on the main CPU.
LiPo
A lithium polymer rechargeable battery commonly used in portable electronics projects. It matters because LiPo batteries need correct charging circuitry and care, and this board includes hardware intended for that battery type.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
MIDI
MIDI is a standard way for electronic instruments, controllers, and software to send musical control messages such as notes, velocity, and timing. If a board supports MIDI, it can be triggered from keyboards, drum pads, sequencers, or other music gear rather than only from buttons or code.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
reverse polarity protection
A circuit feature that helps protect the board if power is connected the wrong way around. It matters because it can reduce the chance of damaging the breakout during wiring mistakes, especially in classroom or prototyping use.
Thread
A low-power wireless mesh networking standard designed for smart home and IoT devices. It matters because Thread devices can relay messages through each other, helping build reliable networks for sensors and controllers.
