EagLED is Little Bird Electronics' wearable development kit: an Arduino-compatible microcontroller board with LEDs, a light sensor, push button and buzzer built into a snippable PCB for e-textile projects.

Built-in USB support lets you program and power the board from a computer. It works with the Arduino IDE, is a Microsoft Certified device, and can be programmed to act like a mouse, keyboard or MIDI musical device when connected over USB.

The board is designed for garments and beginner-friendly wearable builds. Components sit flush to the PCB to help prevent snagging, the sewing pads are crocodile clip friendly, and the board includes protection so connecting a battery the wrong way will not fry the board.

Beyond the main board, EagLED includes detachable LEDs, a push button, a light sensor and a coin cell holder with an on/off switch, so you can snip off and sew parts into different places on a garment.

Features:

  • Arduino compatible: complete microcontroller for wearable projects.
  • Built-in USB support: program and power the board over USB.
  • Arduino IDE compatible: works with the standard Arduino development environment.
  • Microsoft Certified: recognised as a Microsoft Certified device.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

ICSP connector
An In-Circuit Serial Programming connector is a header used to reprogram a microcontroller directly with a programmer. It matters if you want advanced control, bootloader recovery, or to program the board without using the normal USB method.
IDE
Short for Integrated Development Environment, a program used to write, run and manage code. It matters because some learners prefer a traditional coding workspace instead of a guided notebook-style lesson.
Ideal diode
An ideal diode circuit lets current flow one way like a normal diode, but with much less voltage loss. This matters in power-selection or backup-power projects because less voltage is wasted as heat and more reaches your device.
LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
microcontroller
A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
MIDI
MIDI is a standard way for electronic instruments, controllers, and software to send musical control messages such as notes, velocity, and timing. If a board supports MIDI, it can be triggered from keyboards, drum pads, sequencers, or other music gear rather than only from buttons or code.
PCB
A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
Reverse battery protection
Reverse battery protection is circuitry that helps prevent damage if a battery is connected the wrong way around. This is especially useful in wearable and classroom projects where batteries may be unplugged and reconnected often.
RX
RX means receive, usually showing data being received by the board. An RX indicator LED can help with troubleshooting USB or serial communication.
TX
TX means transmit, usually showing data being sent from the board. A TX indicator LED can help you see when the board is communicating or uploading code.
USB fuse
A USB fuse is a resettable protection part that limits current if the board or wiring has a fault. It helps protect the computer’s USB port and the board during experiments or accidental short circuits.
