A cute flower-shaped light sensor designed to connect to Bearables LED badges using conductive thread. When the sensor is covered or it gets dark, your connected badge's LEDs light up — bringing your wearable to life with interactive light effects.

Bearables is a range of woodland-themed wearable LED badges and sensors. Simply sew the sensor to a badge using conductive thread (one hook to one hook, then the other pair) and press the badge's button to enter trigger mode.

Key Features

  • Light Sensor – Two phototransistors detect darkness or covering
  • Sewable Hooks – Two hooks for conductive thread connections
  • Compatible with Bearables Badges – Triggers LED patterns when light changes
  • Simple Connection – Works in either orientation

Specifications

  • Sensor Type: Dual phototransistor
  • Dimensions: 17 × 17 × 5mm
  • Connection: Conductive thread via sewable hooks

Ideal For

  • Interactive wearable projects (ages 8+)
  • E-textile and sewable electronics
  • Light-reactive costume accessories
Note: Bearables badges and sensors are not waterproof or washable. Ensure the two conductive threads do not touch each other when fabric is creased. A dab of clear nail varnish on the thread around the hooks can improve connection reliability. Contains small parts — not suitable for children under 3 years.

Package Contents

  • 1× Flower Light Sensor
  • 1× Sticker Sheet

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

conductive thread
Thread made with metal or other conductive fibres so it can carry electricity while being sewn into fabric. It matters for wearable and textile projects because it can replace wire, but it has more resistance than normal hookup wire.
LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
phototransistor
A light-sensitive transistor that changes its electrical output when light hits it. Compared with a modulated IR receiver, a simple phototransistor can be more affected by ambient light, so it may need extra filtering or careful setup.
Thread
A low-power wireless mesh networking standard designed for smart home and IoT devices. It matters because Thread devices can relay messages through each other, helping build reliable networks for sensors and controllers.
