The Artech A5020 is a 4000-count True RMS digital multimeter with Smart Measurement — it automatically identifies whether you're measuring AC voltage, DC voltage, resistance, or continuity, and auto-ranges to the optimal setting for accuracy.
Beyond standard voltage and current readings, the A5020 measures capacitance, frequency, duty cycle, and temperature (via the included Type K thermocouple). A continuity buzzer sounds below approximately 40 Ω, and the meter auto-powers off after 15 minutes to conserve battery life.
Key Features
- Smart Measurement – Auto-identifies ACV, DCV, resistance, and continuity
- True RMS – Accurate AC readings for non-sinusoidal waveforms
- Auto-Ranging – Automatically selects the best range for resolution and accuracy
- Temperature Measurement – Type K thermocouple included
- Continuity Buzzer – Audible alert below ~40 Ω
- Auto Power Off – Shuts off after approximately 15 minutes

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- auto-ranging
- Auto-ranging means the sensor automatically changes its internal measurement scale to suit the light level. This makes it easier to use across changing conditions because you do not have to manually adjust gain or range settings.
- duty cycle
- The fraction of time a signal or light source is switched on during a repeating cycle. On a proximity sensor, changing the duty cycle can affect detection range, response speed, accuracy and power use.
- RMS
- RMS is a way of describing the effective level of an AC signal, such as an audio output voltage. It helps compare audio output levels more meaningfully than a peak voltage number.
- Thermocouple
- A temperature sensor made from two different metals that produces a very small voltage depending on temperature. Because the signal is tiny, it usually needs careful amplification and accurate measurement hardware.
