The Adafruit FONA Mini Cellular GSM Breakout (SMA Version) is a compact 1.75 × 1.25-inch cellular module that adds voice, text, SMS, and GPRS data to any microcontroller project. This version features an SMA antenna connector for a secure, threaded external antenna connection.
Built around the SIM800 quad-band GSM module (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), the FONA works on any global 2G network. It includes LiPo battery charging via Micro-USB, level shifting (2.8–5 V logic), a TRRS headphone jack, vibration motor driver, and even an FM radio receiver. It communicates via AT commands over UART with auto baud detection.
