The URM07 is an ultra-low-power UART ultrasonic distance sensor with an effective range of 20–750 cm. Operating on 3.0–5.5 V, it is directly compatible with 3.3 V and 5 V microcontrollers including Arduino and Raspberry Pi. With an average operating current of just 5 mA and standby current under 14 µA, it is well suited for battery-powered and remote sensing applications.
A built-in temperature sensor provides automatic temperature compensation for improved distance accuracy. The integrated ultrasonic probe offers an approximately 60° detection angle in a compact 27 × 27 mm package, communicating via UART over a 2.54 mm 4-pin interface.

Resources
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- IoT
- Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
- Temperature compensation
- Temperature compensation means the sensor adjusts its readings to reduce errors caused by changes in water temperature. This matters for field monitoring because ponds, rivers, and tanks can vary in temperature throughout the day and across seasons.
- UART
- UART is a simple serial connection that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, often labelled TX and RX. It matters because this module is designed to replace a wired UART cable with a wireless link while keeping the same serial data format.
