The STL-27L is a compact 360° dToF (direct Time-of-Flight) LIDAR sensor with a measuring range of 0.03–25 m. It delivers high-resolution point cloud data at an angular resolution of 0.167° with a scanning frequency of 10 Hz and measurement frequency of 21,600 Hz, making it well suited for robotic navigation, mapping, and obstacle avoidance.
The sensor features a coaxial brushless motor rated for up to 10,000 hours of operation, ambient light resistance up to 60 klux, and UART communication. The provided SDK supports both ROS1 and ROS2. The laser conforms to FDA Class 1 eye safety standards.

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LiDAR
- A sensing method that uses laser light to measure distance and build a 3D picture of the surroundings. It matters for robotics and autonomous systems because LiDAR data can help with mapping, navigation and obstacle detection.
- ROS
- ROS, the Robot Operating System, is a set of software tools and libraries commonly used to build robot projects. Mentioning ROS support suggests the board has the kinds of interfaces and processing power often needed for cameras, sensors and robot control.
- UART
- UART is a simple serial connection that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, often labelled TX and RX. It matters because this module is designed to replace a wired UART cable with a wireless link while keeping the same serial data format.
