The FPM is a high-precision GNSS receiver in the SparkPNT FP family, built around SparkFun’s modular Flex System. This version is fitted with the Septentrio mosaic-X5 module and arrives fully assembled, ready for mission-critical positioning work with interference protection.
Designed to be repairable and future-proof, the FP receiver can be opened and the internal module swapped out with a Phillips head screwdriver. The platform is user-upgradeable and uses open-source firmware, giving you more control over the device over its service life.
It is built for demanding field use, with multi-band GNSS reception, AIM+ interference mitigation, an enclosed 1W LoRa radio, MFi certification for iOS compatibility, and an IP67 rated cast-aluminium housing with a reinforced dome. Documentation includes hardware resources, software resources, a mosaic-X5 datasheet, the RTK Everywhere product manual, PointPerfect subscription registration information, and a GitHub firmware repository.
Features:
- Capable of L1/L2/L5 reception.
- AIM+ Interference Mitigation.
- MFi certified, ensuring compatibility with iOS devices.
- Enclosed high-powered 1W LoRa radio.
- IP67 rated cast-aluminium housing with a reinforced dome.
- The mosaic-X5 is capable of 6mm horizontal accuracy when receiving RTK corrections.
- Repairable receiver design.
- User-upgradeable receiver design.
- Open-source firmware.
- Module can be fully switched out in about five minutes with a Phillips head screwdriver.
Specifications:
- Receiver module: mosaic-X5 from Septentrio
- GNSS reception: L1/L2/L5
- Interference mitigation: AIM+
- iOS compatibility: MFi certified
- LoRa radio: Enclosed high-powered 1W LoRa radio
- Housing rating: IP67
- Housing construction: Cast-aluminium housing with a reinforced dome
- Horizontal accuracy: 6mm when receiving RTK corrections
A strong option for survey, mapping, robotics, precision agriculture, and other RTK GNSS applications where accuracy, serviceability, and field-ready construction matter.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- GNSS
- GNSS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System, covering positioning systems such as GPS and similar satellite networks. It matters here because high-precision GNSS modules can output lots of serial position data that this product can send wirelessly to a computer or phone.
- IP67
- An ingress protection rating meaning the enclosure is dust-tight and can survive temporary immersion in water under specified test conditions. This matters when choosing a sensor for outdoor, wet, or wash-down environments.
- L5
- A modern GNSS signal band used by several satellite systems for more accurate and robust positioning. Dual-band receivers that include L5 can often perform better than single-band receivers, especially for RTK and areas with reflected signals.
- LoRa
- LoRa is a long-range, low-power radio technology often used for telemetry and remote sensors. It matters here because the connector and pinout are compatible with some LoRa telemetry products, even though this module uses Bluetooth instead.
- Matter
- A smart home connectivity standard designed to let devices work across different ecosystems. It matters if you want a project to integrate more easily with platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, or other Matter-compatible systems.
- RTK
- Real-Time Kinematic positioning is a GNSS technique that uses correction data from a base station to greatly improve location accuracy. It matters if you need centimetre-level positioning for robotics, mapping, surveying, or tracking rather than ordinary metre-level GPS accuracy.
