The SparkFun AS7262 Visible Spectral Sensor Breakout brings spectroscopy to the palm of your hand, making it easy to measure and characterise how different materials absorb and reflect different wavelengths of light. It communicates via both I²C and serial (AT commands), and features Qwiic connectors for plug-and-play hookup — no soldering required.

The AS7262 detects six wavelengths in the visible spectrum — 450, 500, 550, 570, 600, and 650 nm — each with 40 nm full-width half-maximum (FWHM) detection. An onboard LED is included for illuminating samples, plus two pads for soldering your own LED.

Key Features

  • 6-Channel Visible Spectroscopy – Measures 450, 500, 550, 570, 600, and 650 nm wavelengths
  • 40 nm FWHM – Precise per-channel detection bandwidth
  • Dual Interface – I²C (address 0x49) and UART serial with AT commands
  • Qwiic Connectors – Plug directly into any Qwiic-compatible board
  • Onboard Illumination LED – Plus pads for a custom LED
  • 3.3V Logic – Compatible with most modern microcontrollers

Ideal For

  • Colour detection and sorting
  • Material analysis and identification
  • Light source characterisation
  • Science and education projects

Package Contents

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

breakout
A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
Qwiic
Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
Torque
A twisting force that causes something to rotate, usually measured in newton-metres or kilogram-centimetres. It matters when choosing motors, servos, gears, and tools because higher torque is needed to lift heavier loads, turn larger wheels, or move mechanisms without stalling.
UART
UART is a simple serial connection that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, often labelled TX and RX. It matters because this module is designed to replace a wired UART cable with a wireless link while keeping the same serial data format.
