The SparkFun RFID Reader Breakout converts the 2mm pin spacing of ID-series RFID readers to breadboard-friendly 0.1" headers. Compatible with the ID-3LA, ID-12LA, and ID-20LA readers, this board lets you solder the reader directly or use 2mm sockets for a removable connection.
Every pin is broken out including VCC, READ, D0, D1, FORM, TIR, CP, both ANT pins, RES, and GND. The breakout board fits flush within the underside of the ID-12LA, and four half-mounting holes make it easy to secure in your enclosure or project.
Key Features
- Pin Conversion – Converts 2mm reader pins to 0.1" breadboard-compatible headers
- Full Breakout – All reader pins accessible: VCC, READ, D0, D1, FORM, TIR, CP, ANT, RES, GND
- Compatible Readers – ID-3LA, ID-12LA, and ID-20LA
- Mounting – Four half-mounting holes for secure installation
- Flush Fit – Board edges fit within the underside of the ID-12LA
Ideal For
- RFID access control and identification projects
- Breadboard prototyping with ID-series readers
- Arduino and microcontroller RFID applications

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- breakout
- A breakout is a small circuit board that makes a tiny or hard-to-solder component easier to connect to with standard pins. It matters because this OLED module can be wired into a microcontroller project without needing to solder directly to the display’s fine contacts.
- Headers
- Rows of metal pins used to plug a module into a breadboard or connect it with jumper wires. Pre-soldered headers make the module easier to use straight away without needing to solder the pins yourself.
- microcontroller
- A microcontroller is a small computer on a chip that runs your program and controls connected inputs and outputs. For this product, it is the part that reads buttons and sensors, drives the display and speaker, and communicates over Bluetooth.
