Got a Raspberry Pi 4 ready to go? This bring-your-own-Pi kit bundles the accessories needed to turn an HDMI monitor into a Raspberry Pi desktop PC or media centre, without including the Raspberry Pi board itself.
The kit includes a blank 64GB microSD card with adapter, selected for smooth Raspberry Pi operating system use and faster Raspbian image updates compared with SparkFun’s previous card. It also includes USB-C power hardware, an HDMI to micro HDMI cable, and a Logitech K400 Plus wireless keyboard with touchpad for a plug-and-play HID setup.
A black metal heatsink case with thermal tape helps protect the Raspberry Pi 4 and cool the major components during heavier use. A SparkFun Qwiic SHIM for Raspberry Pi is also included for connecting Qwiic boards during testing.
Included:
- Logitech K400 Plus Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad
- Kingston Canvas Go! Plus 64GB MicroSD Card with Adapter
- USB Type C to Type C Male Cable (1 Meter)
- USB Type C Wall Adapter
- Metal Heatsink Case with Thermal Tape - Black
- HDMI to Micro HDMI Cable
- SparkFun Qwiic SHIM for Raspberry Pi
This kit does not include a Raspberry Pi in any form; a Raspberry Pi 4 must be purchased separately. The Qwiic SHIM is not intended to be used with the heatsink case fitted, as it prevents the case from properly connecting with the processor. Use the SHIM with the top of the case off, or use an extension header with a Pi HAT.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- HDMI
- HDMI is a common digital video and audio connection used by computers, media players, and many displays. If a display kit has HDMI input, it is usually much easier to test with a single-board computer because it can act like a normal monitor.
- HID
- Human Interface Device is a USB device class used for keyboards, mice, gamepads and similar controls. If a board supports HID over USB, it can act like an input device to a computer without needing a custom driver.
- microSD card
- A microSD card is a small removable flash memory card used to store data such as audio, images, logs or program files. Its capacity and formatting (often FAT32 or exFAT) affect how much can be stored and whether the card needs preparing before use.
- Qwiic
- Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
- USB-C
- USB-C is a small, reversible USB connector that can carry power, data and, on some devices, video over a single cable. The same connector can range from charging only to high-speed data, so the functions a given port actually supports vary.
