This starter kit is built around the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 2 GB of RAM, giving you the core board and essential accessories needed to get a Pi 4 project running.
The Raspberry Pi 4 uses Micro HDMI for display output and USB Type-C for power, so the kit includes a Micro HDMI to HDMI cable and a USB-C wall adapter. The adapter supplies 15.3 W, suitable for powering the Pi and most projects.
A blank 64 GB Class 10 microSD card is included, along with an SD card adapter so you can load your preferred Raspberry Pi operating system from a computer with an SD card reader. The kit also includes the SparkFun Qwiic SHIM for Raspberry Pi, making it quick to connect I2C Qwiic devices.
Included:
- Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (2 GB)
- Raspberry Pi Wall Adapter Power Supply - 5.1VDC, 3.0A, 15.3W (USB-C)
- Micro HDMI Cable - 3ft
- MicroSD Card with Adapter - 64GB (Class 10)
- SparkFun Qwiic SHIM for Raspberry Pi
This kit suits Raspberry Pi users upgrading to Pi 4 or makers who want a practical base for Linux, display, automation, I2C and general electronics projects.
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- HDMI
- HDMI is a common digital video and audio connection used by computers, media players, and many displays. If a display kit has HDMI input, it is usually much easier to test with a single-board computer because it can act like a normal monitor.
- I2C
- I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
- microSD card
- A microSD card is a small removable memory card used to store files such as audio tracks. For this product, the card is where the sound files live, so its capacity and formatting can affect how many sounds you can use.
- Qwiic
- Qwiic is a plug-in connector system for I2C devices that uses small 4-pin cables, so you can connect compatible sensors without soldering. It matters because your controller or adapter also needs Qwiic, or you will need a cable or breakout to wire it up.
- RAM
- RAM is temporary memory used while a device is running, and its contents are lost when power is removed. A “Run in RAM” mode is useful for testing settings without permanently programming the module, but it may not support every feature.
- USB Type-C
- A reversible USB connector used for power and data on many modern devices. On this kit it indicates an alternate 5V power input, which may be useful for setup or charging without the solar panel.
- USB-C
- A modern reversible USB connector used for power and data connections. On this product it matters because it can connect directly to a computer as well as to a microcontroller project.
