An accessory pack for the ElecFreaks Ring:bit Car V2, adding obstacle avoidance, line-following, and colourful LED lighting to your micro:bit-powered car. The kit includes three modules that plug directly into the Ring:bit Car for expanded functionality.
What's Included
- Sonar:bit (Ultrasonic Sensor) – 3-wire ultrasonic module with a 4–400 cm detection range (±1 cm tolerance), 3–5V operating voltage. Enables obstacle avoidance.
- Tracking Module – Dual infrared probe line-following sensor with 2–12 mm detection distance. Follows black lines, detects edges, and tracks circular paths.
- LED Light Bar – 8× Rainbow full-colour LEDs for auto-headlights, rainbow effects, and custom lighting.
Key Features
- Plug-and-Play – Connects directly to the Ring:bit Car V2 via 3-wire GVS cables
- micro:bit Programmable – Control all modules through MakeCode or Python
- Three Functions in One Kit – Obstacle avoidance, line following, and LED lighting
Ideal For
- Expanding Ring:bit Car V2 capabilities
- Learning about sensors and robotics with micro:bit
- Classroom STEM activities

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode (LED) is a small electronic component that emits light when current flows through it in the correct direction. Because it only conducts one way, its polarity matters, and a through-hole LED must be soldered the correct way around to light up.
- Tolerance
- Tolerance tells you how far the real resistance value may be from the printed value. A 1% resistor is useful when a circuit needs more predictable behaviour than a looser 5% or 10% part.
- Ultrasonic module
- An ultrasonic module measures distance by sending out high-frequency sound pulses and timing their echo. It is commonly used for obstacle detection and simple range-finding projects, but it needs a clear path to the target.
