Photon is an advanced educational robot that grows with its owner. Featuring 10 programmable sensors and a story-based mobile application for iOS and Android, Photon teaches coding concepts through interactive play and exploration.

Designed for children, Photon responds to touch, light, sound, and obstacles — making every interaction a learning opportunity. Robots can even communicate with each other for collaborative activities.

Key Features

  • Light Detection – Determines light intensity to distinguish between dark and bright environments
  • Touch Detection – Responds to physical touch interactions
  • Obstacle Detection – Detects obstacles up to 100cm away with 1cm accuracy
  • Sound Detection – Reacts to loud sounds such as claps, stamps, or voice
  • Ground Contrast Detection – Four contrast sensors detect black and white surfaces for line following
  • Robot-to-Robot Communication – Multiple Photon robots can interact with each other
  • Distance Measurement – Tracks distance travelled in centimetres
  • Rotation Control – Turns to a specified angle with 1-degree accuracy
  • Route Mapping – Follows programmed routes while reacting to the environment
  • RGB LED Eyes & Antennas – Independently controlled colour-changing lights
  • Custom Sounds – Plays built-in sounds or recordings transmitted via the app
  • Magnetic Accessory Mounts – Expand capabilities with snap-on magnetic accessories

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

LED
A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
RGB
Short for red, green and blue, usually referring to an LED that can mix those three colours. It matters because controlling an RGB LED teaches how separate outputs combine to create different colours.
