C4001 24GHz Millimeter-Wave Presence Sensor (25 m Range)

The C4001 Millimeter-Wave Presence Sensor is a high-precision FMCW radar module designed for reliable human presence, motion, and distance detection. Operating at 24 GHz, the C4001 delivers exceptional performance in real-world environments where traditional infrared or ultrasonic sensors often fall short.

With a 100° wide horizontal field of view, 16-meter presence detection, and an extended 25-meter motion and ranging capability, this compact radar module is ideal for security systems, smart home automation, environmental monitoring, and industrial sensing applications.

Engineered with robust anti-interference capabilities, the C4001 performs flawlessly in challenging conditions including dust, fog, low light, temperature fluctuations, and noise. Unlike PIR sensors, it can detect both static and movingtargets, ensuring dependable occupancy detection—even when someone is sitting or sleeping.

Powered by FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar technology, the C4001 enables real-time measurement of distance, velocity, and motion direction, offering superior resolution and responsiveness. With UART and I/O interfaces, integration with Arduino, ESPHome, Home Assistant, and industrial systems is straightforward.

Jargon buster

Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.

baud
Baud is the signalling rate of a serial connection, often used as the speed setting for UART communication. Matching the baud rate matters because both connected devices must use the same setting for readable data.
ESPHome
ESPHome is firmware and a configuration system for ESP-based devices used with Home Assistant. It matters because a supported ESPHome configuration can make the sensor easier to connect to a smart home setup without writing low-level code.
FMCW
Frequency-modulated continuous wave is a radar method that sends a changing radio signal and compares the reflection to estimate movement and distance. It matters for presence sensors because it can provide more detailed detection than a simple motion-only sensor.
mmWave
Short for millimetre wave, a high-frequency radio technology used here for radar-style sensing. It matters because mmWave sensors can detect very small movements, such as breathing, which helps them notice a person who is sitting still.
UART
UART is a simple serial connection that sends data over separate transmit and receive wires, often labelled TX and RX. It matters because this module is designed to replace a wired UART cable with a wireless link while keeping the same serial data format.
