A compact uninterruptible power supply (UPS) module that supports simultaneous charging and power output. When external power is connected, it charges the batteries while providing a stable 5V output. If external power is lost, it automatically switches to battery power without interruption — keeping your system running.
The module communicates over I2C (via an onboard INA219), allowing real-time monitoring of battery voltage, current, power, and remaining capacity. It is designed for easy integration into mobile robots, embedded systems, and industrial control applications.
Key Features
- Uninterruptible Power – Seamless switchover between external and battery power
- 5V 2.5A Output – Stable regulated output via ETA1188 voltage regulator
- I2C Battery Monitoring – Real-time voltage, current, power, and capacity readings (INA219)
- Comprehensive Protection – Overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short-circuit, and reverse-polarity protection
- Equalising Charge – Balances battery cells for safer, more stable operation
- Dual Charging/Discharging Methods – Via solder pads (5V 3A in / 5V 2.5A out) or pin headers
- Status Indicators – Power, charging, and reverse-connection warning LEDs
- Boot Button – Battery activation switch

Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- Headers
- Rows of metal pins used to plug a module into a breadboard or connect it with jumper wires. Pre-soldered headers make the module easier to use straight away without needing to solder the pins yourself.
- I2C
- I2C is a two-wire communication bus used by many sensors and small modules. It matters because several I2C devices can share the same two wires, but each device needs a compatible address and your controller must support I2C.
- IoT
- Short for Internet of Things, meaning physical devices that connect to networks or the internet to send data or be controlled remotely. It matters if you want projects such as connected sensors, remote controls or classroom data-logging activities.
- LED
- A light-emitting diode is a small electronic component that lights up when current flows through it in the correct direction. In this kit, LEDs create the flashing effect, so polarity and correct soldering matter for the project to work.
- UPS
- An uninterruptible power supply is a battery-backed power system that keeps a device running when external power is unplugged or fails. For an embedded computer, it helps prevent sudden shutdowns that can corrupt files or interrupt a project.
