The MG996 Servo is a robust, high-torque servo designed for demanding applications. An upgrade to the popular MG995, this servo offers improved precision and performance with a redesigned PCB and IC control system. Featuring an all-metal gear construction and double ball bearings, the MG996 excels in environments where accuracy and reliability are paramount.
With a high torque output of up to 15 kg-cm at 6V and a quick response time, it’s ideal for trucks, boats, racing cars, helicopters, and airplanes. The upgraded gearing and motor significantly enhance centering and dead bandwidth, making it a trusted choice for projects requiring precise servo movements.
The MG996 operates on 4.8V to 7.2V, with a heavy-duty 300mm wire for versatile applications, and it’s compatible with popular receiver connectors such as Futaba, Hitec, Sanwa, and GWS.
Features:
- Torque: 15 kg-cm (208.3 oz-in) @ 6V
- Speed: 0.13 sec/60° @ 6V
- Voltage Range: 4.8V - 7.2V
- Dimensions: 40mm x 19mm x 43mm
- Weight: 55g
- All-metal gears for enhanced durability
- Double ball bearing for smooth, stable operation
- Heavy-duty 300mm connector wire
If you need reliable power and precise control, the MG996 Servo is a fantastic solution for any high-performance project!
Jargon buster
Plain-language definitions for the technical terms used above.
- dead bandwidth
- Dead bandwidth is the small range of input change a servo ignores before it starts moving. A smaller dead bandwidth can give finer position control, but may also make the servo more sensitive to tiny signal changes or jitter.
- MG996
- MG996 is a model name for a standard-size hobby servo with metal gears. The model matters because size, torque, connector style, and control behaviour need to match the robot, RC vehicle, or mechanism you are building.
- PCB
- A printed circuit board is a rigid board with copper tracks that connect electronic parts without loose wires. For this kit, the PCBs also form the airplane shape, so they are both the circuit base and part of the finished model.
- servo
- A servo is a motor with built-in position control, usually told to move to a specific angle by a control signal. It matters when you need repeatable movement, such as steering, arms, flaps, or linkages, rather than continuous spinning.
- Torque
- A twisting force that causes something to rotate, usually measured in newton-metres or kilogram-centimetres. It matters when choosing motors, servos, gears, and tools because higher torque is needed to lift heavier loads, turn larger wheels, or move mechanisms without stalling.
Not Tower Pro servos
These servos are sourced from China. While the ones we received are labelled as "Tower Pro" (per the photo), we do not believe they this brand.
