ZMOD4450 Refrigeration Air Quality Gas Sensor Module

The ZMOD4450 is a compact gas sensor module for detecting gases associated with food ripening or rotting. It is intended for refrigeration air quality (RAQ) applications such as food storage and shipping, including humid and dusty environments where water spray, condensation or immersion may be possible.

The module is a 12-LGA assembly measuring 3.0 × 3.0 × 0.7 mm, combining a gas sense element with a CMOS signal conditioning IC. Its sensing element uses a heater on a silicon-based MEMS structure and a metal oxide (MOx) chemiresistor, with the signal conditioner controlling sensor temperature and measuring MOx conductivity as a function of gas concentration.

Measurement results are read over an I2C interface by the user’s microprocessor. Provided firmware can be used to determine the level of gases present and indicate the likelihood of food spoilage, while built-in nonvolatile memory stores module configuration and calibration data.
